Bryce Canyon is named after a 19th century pioneer to Paria Valley in southern Utah. In the 1870’s, Ebenezer Bryce lost some cattle and stumbled upon the formations in the canyons. After finding the cattle, he was quoted as saying, “It’s one hell of a place to lose a cow.” In the 1920’s, the land became a National Park and a U.S. National Monument.
